Naloxone

Narcan

What is Naloxone, sometimes referred to as NARCAN

Naloxone is a drug that temporarily reverses overdoses of opioids: Heroin, Fentanyl, Opioid Prescriptions: Codeine, Morphine, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, etc. This means that carrying it on you if you know anyone or have ever thought about trying these drugs yourself, is super important. It can be the chance someone else or yourself may need. Having it in the case of doing drugs that aren't opioids are just as important, because you never know if the drug you are doing could be laced with fentanyl or another opioid drug. Having Naloxone is a necessary piece of Harm Reduction, and there are several non-profits and other clinics that provide it for free, or at a low cost.

Many people with a healthcare background, chronic illness, or life-changing experiences, will sometimes carry medical bags or emergency kits in their cars or on their person in the case of an emergency medical event. If you plan to carry a medical pack in your car, or on your person for any reason, Naloxone is another life-saving medication to have on you in the case of an emergency. No one can predict the time and place, or type of person who will experience an opioid overdose, so it's vital that we take our crisis emergency medical training seriously.
