Getting Tested

Why do we get tested for STDs?

We get tested for STDs every year after the beginnig of puberty to make sure that we can manage any exposures or possible infections of sexually transmitted diseases. You can get tested based on what you are most worried about or symptoms you are having. If you believe you could have a STD or STI talk to your doctor about what to get tested for and set up those tests accordingly. It's important to remember that we can get STDs or STIs whenever we are openning ourselves up to a new fluid exchange, this can be done with needles, sexual intercourse, or a partner's new fluid exchange. Many EMTs and health providers have to get tested for HIV and AIDs when they come in contact with a new person's fluids. A person's reason for getting tested does not have to be related to sexual activity, and we should never judge someone's actions.

When do we get tested for STDs?

Whenever we plan on having a new fluid exchange with a new partner.

Whenever we have new fluid exchange from our last time getting tested.

Whenever we have used a previously used needle for injections.

Whenever we think we may have had exposure to someone else's bodily fluids without time for preparation.

Whenever a previous partner informs us they have had partners in between exposure with us.

Whenever a previous partner informs us they have a partner that has a positive result.

Whenever a previous partner informs us they have a positive result.

Whenever we are thinking about a planned fluid exchange for the first time.
